Alone Israel is not. Although small in number, the presence of the Christian community in Ottawa was profound in implication and did not go unnoticed.
Attending the rally were Christian supporters of Israel from across Ontario. Among them were Christian Friends of Israel, Bridges for Peace, Watchmen for the Nations, and the International Christian Embassy of Jerusalem.
“I love the Jewish community. I feel very much part of them,” said Donna Holbrook, the Canadian director of the International Christian Embassy of Jerusalem (ICEJ). “I feel their warmth and their reception. Our stand as Christians – they haven’t seen that in the past.”
Bernie Farber, the executive director of the Canadian Jewish Congress (Ontario Region) acknowledged in an interview that this was probably the largest event in Canadian Jewish history in support of the State of Israel for the very reason that Jews and Christians stood together. “There are no words to describe how we feel when non-Jews and when friends and brothers and sisters of the Christian community stand with us, it just fantastic!”
Some believe, however, that such support is needed on a larger scale. “If you don’t support the Jewish cause and read the Bible, and so many do, and you believe in the Old Testament and millions do, then why do you have trouble understanding that the Jewish people belong in Israel as ordained in the Bible by God?” wondered Rabbi Kaplan.
