The infiltration of terrorists from the Sinai peninsula into southern Israel August 2011 resulted in eight Israeli deaths. Since then Israeli defense has been aggressive in its efforts to guard it’s southern border from illegal infiltrators and terrorists, the smuggling of weapons and drugs, and the trafficking of women.
I have just returned from the Israel-Sinai border. Brigadier-General Eran Ophir gave members of the foreign press a briefing regarding the ongoing construction of the security fence there. Standing in front of a newly built segment of the five-meter high fence made of galvanized steel bars and mesh, Ophir projected that the entire parameter of the Israel-Egypt border will be fenced by early 2013.
Stay tuned for ANN’s continued coverage of Israel’s defense initiatives.
