At 9:00 a.m. yesterday morning, warning sirens sounded in Israel’s sunny southernmost city of Eilat, a seaside community bordering Jordan, Egypt and the Red Sea.
Following reports by locals that two explosions were heard in the city, the IDF found remnants of two rockets in open areas. There were no casualties or damages as a result of the attack, for which the Salafi movement has claimed responsibility.
While in Eilat last week, I considered the possibility of an incoming attack, as I clearly remember the account of the last instance of rocket fire directed at Eilat. In April 2012, almost exactly a year ago, a powerful Grad rocket fell on the city. Again, no casualties or physical injuries were reported, although several residents suffered from shock.
