Dean Bye, Canadian executive director of Christians For Israel believes Christians recognize that they have been adopted into the family of God which is “extremely Jewish.” “Like any family,” he said, “we should stand together when a member of the family is suffering sorrow or grief.”
But the reasons why Christians should support Israel extend beyond family ties, according to Barry Denison, the national director of Bridges for Peace, Israel. They represent a scriptural mandate rooted in biblical prophecy: “It is clear that God, our master and creator has said, ‘Now is the time to restore Israel. As His servants, we need to participate with that. At some point this process will usher in the return of Jesus. Jesus will return to the Mount of Olives from which he ascended and I can promise you, He will return to a Jewish Jerusalem.”
The Christian choice is simple, according to John Howson, national director of Bridges for Peace, Canada. “A good rule of thumb in dealing with God is to love what He loves, and the Bible tells us that He loves the Jewish people. They are awestruck that suddenly Christians who have persecuted them for centuries are becoming their very best friends.”
The ancient Hebrew prophets clearly pointed to the eventual restoration of Israel, a nation of strength, living in peace – a profound expression of the wonderful unfailing covenant between Israel and God.
