There is a lot of buzz on the streets of Israel today.

“Did you get your gas mask?” is commonly asked – and not just among Israelis.  My colleagues at all the major news agencies such as Reuters, AP, ARD, NBC are also purchasing gas masks, and some even ordering full NBC (nuclear, biological and chemical) suits – just in case.

If conflict does break out, the French government is reportedly prepared to evacuate its 200,000 Franco-Israeli citizens currently residing in Israel.

Yet the mood on the street is calm, even peaceful.  Life continues to push forward as war appears increasingly inevitable.  This is a country with a lot of enemies, and wars do break out here.  Yet this is also a nation that has seen unparalleled against-all-odds, apparent divine-intervention victories in its short 64-year history.

As Israel prepares for the upcoming High Holy Days, the Days of Awe, may the nation once again stand in awe of the God of Israel, and His covering of protection over them.
